Hugo Donkin is a Producer & EP who threads comedy, animation and mixed media into stories that linger on the brain!
His credits span two decades, most notably producing Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, directed by Becky Sloan and Joe Pelling. It began as a surreal YouTube experiment, amassed over 300 million views and went on to become a BAFTA-winning Channel 4 series.
He started out in online documentaries at Vice.com before moving to BlinkInk + Blink Industries, where his work has included music videos for Gorillaz, Idris Elba, Little Simz and Mastodon, viral ads for Trolli Worms, and work on The Amazing World of Gumball for Cartoon Network. More recently he was a Producer on Ricky Gervais’s Alley Cats, a #1 animation on Netflix.
Away from the bigger canvases, he has a habit of finding grassroots talent early. His shorts include the cult comedy Jarressey with BAFTA winner Jamie Demetriou, and the Channel 4 animated short Goblin Solutions, starring Nick Mohammed alongside Tom Lawrinson and Lorna Rose-Treen. For Adult Swim he EP’d Peter Hair by Uncle Shortbread, which drew 1.9 million views, and Wilem by James Papper.
Most recently he EP’d Andrew Ganvickton for Adult Swim, created by Joe and Charlie Pelling and voiced by comedian Sam Campbell. Coming soon are new shorts from creator Paul Layzell for Bento Box’s A-Studio Digital.
He connects the handcrafted world of makers, designers, artists and animators with the comedy world. The result is work that cuts through the slop and builds communities and fan bases that last.
